Terms of use

This is a translation for convenience; the German version is legally binding.
1. Provider and scope
FavAuthor is provided by Buuk Publishing GmbH & Co. KG, Hortensienstraße 26, 40474 Düsseldorf, Germany (“we”). These terms apply to using FavAuthor with and without an account.
2. Service
FavAuthor suggests authors that match your taste and shows public pages about authors. It is free of charge. Suggestions are based on other readers’ data, catalogue data and partly on AI; we do not guarantee that you will like them or that they are complete and correct. We may change, extend or discontinue features.
3. Account
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. You sign in with your email address and a code we send you. Do not share the codes. One account per person; automatically created or purchased accounts are not allowed. You can delete your account at any time in the settings.
4. Your content
Content means your reason for your FavAuthor (“reader comment”), your profile name and, if you switch it on, your public reading profile. You are responsible for your content. In particular, the following are not allowed:
- insults, threats, hate or incitement, including against authors
- personal data of other people and claims about their private lives
- spoilers about the content of books
- advertising, links and contact details
- content unrelated to the author
- illegal content and content that infringes third-party rights
- profile names that impersonate other people or FavAuthor
You grant us the simple, free, worldwide right to display and store your content on FavAuthor and in FavAuthor presentations (e.g. share images) and to adapt it technically for this, e.g. shorten it. Reader comments are shown without your name unless you choose to display your profile name. The right ends when you delete the content or your account.
5. Review, reports and moderation
We check reader comments automatically with an AI model before publication; a human reviews unclear cases. Every published comment has a “Report” link. We process reports promptly and carefully, obviously illegal content with priority. If we remove or reject content, we inform you by email with a statement of reasons; the reporting person is also informed of our decision. You can contest a decision within six months at info@buchbuddy.de; a human will then review it again. In case of repeated or serious violations we may remove content and suspend the account after a prior warning.

6. Counting and manipulation
Only confirmed accounts older than one week count towards public numbers such as “FavAuthor of n readers”. Attempts to manipulate numbers (e.g. via multiple accounts) are not allowed. We hide conspicuous clusters until reviewed.
7. Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. Otherwise, as FavAuthor is free of charge, we are not liable for slight negligence. Mandatory statutory liability, e.g. under the Product Liability Act, remains unaffected.
8. Changes
We may change these terms with effect for the future if laws, features or our service change. We notify account holders of material changes by email at least four weeks in advance. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
9. Final provisions
German law applies. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another EU member state, the mandatory protective provisions of that state remain unaffected. We do not take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
