FavAuthor

Information for authors

As of: 17.10.2026

FavAuthor recommends authors to readers based on their taste. For this purpose, many authors have a public page with information about them and similar authors. This page explains which data we process and how you can object.

Controller

Buuk Publishing GmbH & Co. KG, Hortensienstraße 26, 40474 Düsseldorf, Germany, email info@buchbuddy.de. Please send data protection questions to the same address.

Which data we process

  • name and name variants, dates of birth and death, country, languages, occupations, genres
  • known works with year of publication and a short description
  • a photo with author and licence, where available on Wikimedia Commons
  • identifiers in public directories (Wikidata, VIAF, ISNI, Open Library)
  • similar authors: calculated from our readers’ likes (only in aggregate, never individuals), from catalogue features such as genre and era, or as an AI suggestion
  • above a minimum number, how many readers chose you as their FavAuthor, and approved anonymous reader comments

We do not take over data about health, religion, political opinions or other special categories (Art. 9 GDPR).

Sources

  • Wikidata (CC0 licence) and Wikimedia Commons (photos under the licence stated)
  • Open Library of the Internet Archive (works, identifiers)
  • Similar-author suggestions are generated by the language model Claude (Anthropic) solely from the catalogue data above. They are labelled as AI suggestions on the page.
  • likes, FavAuthor choices and reader comments of our users

Purpose and legal basis

We process the data to show readers your work and to recommend other authors they may like. The legal basis is our legitimate interest and that of the public in information about published authors and their works (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We only use information that is already publicly available and related to your work.

Retention

The information is stored as long as the page exists. We reconcile it with the sources monthly and take over corrections. After an objection we hide the page immediately; if we decide to remove it, only a block list with the identifiers is kept so that the page is not recreated during the next reconciliation.

Recipients

The pages are public. Technically we work with Supabase (database, Frankfurt), Vercel (hosting) and Anthropic (AI suggestions from catalogue data); details are in the privacy policy.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18) and to object (Art. 21 GDPR). You can also report errors directly via the “Report an error” link on the page. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the data protection authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).

Objection

Use the form below to object to the page. We hide it immediately, review the objection within one month and inform you of the result by email. Alternatively, write to info@buchbuddy.de.
